The computer support organization for the Jefferson Parish Administration is
comprised of the Electronic Information Systems Department (EIS), the
Management Information Systems Department (MIS), and the Geographic
Information Systems Department (GIS). These departments are complemented by
contract vendor firms. In a cooperative effort, they serve the
Administrative and Legislative computer user community by maintaining
computer hardware and software, developing software applications, and
providing computer user training to Parish employees.
The MIS Department supports the financial system, the payroll system, and
the utility billing system. It provides programming support for
off-the-shelf applications, as well as in-house custom-written applications.
MIS also provides support for all installed hardware, including network
equipment, servers, PCs, terminals, printers, etc.
The GIS Department is responsible for the implementation and support of the
Geographic Information System. This system contains information on parcels,
buildings, streets, water lines, sewer lines, drainage lines and canals,
waterways, land elevations, and political boundaries within unincorporated
Jefferson Parish. The GIS Department can produce maps showing various
combinations of this information. This information is available to the
public for the cost of reproduction. The GIS Department can be contacted at
(504) 736-6720.
