The Department of General Services consists of three (3)
divisions with approximately sixty-six (66) employees operating those divisions. The divisions of the Department of General Services
are as follows:
Property Management Division: The functions for the Property
Management
Division are to provide centralized building maintenance operations, renovations, repairs, custodial services, and to oversee building engineers and mail service. The Property Management Division is responsible for initiating adequate preventive maintenance schedules for the buildings under this
department's jurisdiction. The Property Management Division also strives to upgrade and modernize antiquated equipment and to maintain a high level of service to all tenants in approximately thirty-one (31) parish-owned buildings under the jurisdiction of the Department of General Services encompassing 1.5 million square feet.
Surplus Property Division: The functions of the Surplus Property
Division are
to provide storage of surplus equipment for all Parish departments and to conduct auctions for the disposal of all items not recycled into use by other departments.
The auction for surplus property is held as needed,
usually annually. If you would like to receive notification of future Surplus Property Auctions, or if you have any questions regarding the Surplus Property Auction please call our Surplus Property Division at (504) 736-8485 between the hours of 7:00 a.m.
and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Jefferson Parish will hold this year's auction on
October 23, 2010.
Central Printing Division: The functions of the Central Printing
Division are to provide centralized operation for printing and copier needs for all Parish departments and to continue to increase volume thus lowering the "cost per copy".

4. How do I apply for a job?
We distribute Applications for Employment to applicants with a valid driver's license, if
we have openings in our department. We also refer
these citizens to the
Personnel
Department at 364-2730.
5. Property Management (Privately Owned Property)
The Department of General Services handles
property management for the publicly owned buildings under this department's
jurisdiction. It does not handle issues with privately owned property
such as evictions, problems with landlords, or poor yard/home maintenance.
Those calls will be referred to the information line for Jefferson Parish at
736-6100, for direction to the appropriate department.
Public pay parking, which includes handicap parking, is available in the
Jefferson Parish Parking Garage. The entrance to the garage is at 300 Derbigny
Street, Gretna, LA.
Public pay parking is available for the amount of $5.00 for 0-2 hours and $7.00 for 2-24 hours.
Parking is also available in the garage to all jurors free of charge. Upon entering, obtain a ticket that can be validated in the Jury Pool Room when you report for Jury Duty.
