HOUSING PROGRAMS
Emergency Home Repair - up to $20,000 grant
This program assists homeowners with repairs of specific items, such as roof
repairs or roof replacement, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and/or
heating repairs.

First-Time Homebuyers Assistance
Provides a level of assistance determined by Community Development to a qualified homebuyer interested in purchasing his/her first home. The assistance is secured by a mortgage determined by the amount of money received. Applicants must qualify under the low-income guidelines and must attend
two classes: The First-Time Homebuyer Training and a Financial Fitness Class. *Subject to change without further notice.

Home Modification for the Disabled
Provides grants of up to $7,500 for home modifications for handicapped
accessibility, such as ramps, walk-in showers, grab bars and doors widened.

Home of My Own
Assists individuals with developmental disabilities to become homeowners, and to
develop support plans to maintain their homes. This is a collaborative effort
between Community Development and Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority.

Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation - up to $60,000
grant
Provides financial assistance to eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners who need to rehabilitate their home
to bring substandard dwellings up to housing quality standards. The home must be a single-family dwelling, and the applicant must have clear title to the property for at least one year prior to application.

Replacement Housing
This program provides a $95,000 Grant/Loan ($60,000 grant plus $35,000 loan at
3% interest). Program replaces homes beyond repair, either with a modular,
mobile, or traditionally-built home in designated areas. Homeowner must
get loan approved from a financial institution before Community Development
provides monetary assistance.
Note:
Participants must meet certain eligibility criteria set by the U.S.
Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Jefferson Parish
Department of Community Development. The Replacement Housing Program,
Regular Rehab Program, and Emergency Repair Program are subject to a soft second
(non-repayable) mortgage for a period of 3 to 15 years.

SERVICES
Metropolitan Center for Women & Children - Provides a safe residence for homeless battered women and their children while they receive assistance to re-establish independence. Community Development funds the program through an Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG).

Homeless Shelter & Assistance - The Jefferson Family Care Center, operated by Catholic Charities of New Orleans, provides a residential shelter for homeless adults and their children. The shelter, funded by Community Development with an Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG), is located at the Hope Haven - Madonna Manor Campus on Barataria Blvd. in Marrero, LA.

Repairs on Wheels for the Elderly - This service provides minor home repairs for low and moderate-income elderly homeowners age 55 and older in Jefferson Parish. Labor is free, but the cost of materials is the responsibility of the homeowner. Services include fixing doors, windows, locks, minor plumbing repairs, and minor electrical repairs. The goal is to help elderly citizens remain at home by providing minor maintenance. The program is operated by Volunteers of America (VOA) and funded by Community Development.
