LIHEAP ACTION DAY EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER   Due to severe winter weather in the Washington, D.C. area, the National Fuel Fund Networks LIHEAP Action Day has been postponed
PRESS CONFERENCE: PARISH PRESIDENTS, ADVOCATES, ENTERGY TO FIGHT FOR LIHEAP FUNDING   New Orleans  On Tuesday, metro area leaders will join with community advocates and Entergy employees at the Hazel Rhea Hurst Community Center in Jefferson to call for Congress and President Obama to offer additional Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding to help impoverished families.
ANIMAL SHELTER RULE TO SPEED UP PET ADOPTIONS    Stray animals in the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter may be adopted sooner, with the recent amendment to Chapter 7, Sections 47 and 50, of the Jefferson Parish Code of Ordinances, which reduces the mandatory holding period for stray animals.
CAUSEWAY BOULEVARD LANE CLOSURES    Beginning today at 9 a.m. and ending on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 4 p.m. the Causeway Boulevard and Airline Drive Interchange will experience periodic lane closures to replace the existing light poles which are in a state of deterioration.
NORTHLINE STREET ROAD CLOSURE   On Monday, February 8, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m, the 400 block of Northline Street in Metairie will completely close. Westwego.
LA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION SPORTS HALL OF FAME BASKETBALL CLASSICS COME TO JP   On Saturday, January 30, 2010, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Basketball Classics will be played at the Alario Center, 2000 Segnette Boulevard in Westwego.
RED LIGHT CAMERA ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM SUSPENDED   Today the Jefferson Parish Council passed an emergency ordinance to suspend enforcement of the Red Light Camera Safety Program under Article XI of Chapter 36 of the Jefferson Parish Code of Ordinances, Sections 36-307 through 36-314, entitled Automated Traffic Signal Enforcement.
JEFFERSON PARISH TO WAIVE PERMIT FEES FOR CHINESE DRYWALL   Resolution No. 113773, adopted by the Jefferson Parish Council on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, states that the Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement will waive all fees for inspections and permits needed by property owners to identify and to correct problems caused by the installation of defective Chinese drywall on their properties.
JEFFERSON PARISH RECEIVES GFOA'S AWARD   The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently awarded the Jefferson Parish Finance Department the "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" for their 2007 comprehensive annual financial report.
3rd STREET ROAD CLOSURE   Beginning today and ending on Friday, February 5, 2010, 3rd Street between Dergigny Street and Weyer Street in gretna will completely close.
CHRISTMAS TREE MARSH RESTORATION EVENT CANCELLED  The volunteer Christmas tree marsh restoration effort, scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2010, has been cancelled due to the rain and marine advisory in the forecast for this Saturday.
WALL BOULEVARD TRASH SITE CLOSED  The Wall Boulevard Trash Drop-Off Site has been closed until further notice due to a sewage leak at an adjacent lift station.
JEFFERSON TRANSIT SCHEDULE ON MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. HOLIDAY   On Monday, January 18, 2010, Jefferson Transit will observe the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
COUNCIL NEWS CONFERENCE   The Jefferson Parish Council will hold a news conference at Noon today at the Jefferson Parish General Government Building, 200 Derbigny Street, Gretna, in the second floor in the Council Chambers, regarding the appointment of an interim Jefferson Parish President.
FRIGID TEMPERATURES CAUSED WATER PIPE LEAKS THROUGHOUT PARISH   Jefferson Parish experienced 52 water main breaks this past weekend due to the effects of below freezing temperatures on several continuous days. Forty-seven of the 52 have been repaired. As the breaks occur, citizens may experience low or no water pressure.
NOVA SCOTIA PROPERTY STORY   In response to an article appearing in the Times-Picayune this morning, whereby Rafael Goyeneche of the Metropolitan Crime Commission reported that he sent a letter to the Ethics Administration regarding "suspicions" Goyeneche has about property Aaron Broussard allegedly owns in Nova Scotia
MARSH RESTORATION EVENT POSTPONED   The volunteer Christmas tree marsh restoration effort scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2010, has been postponed due to the extreme cold weather forecast for this weekend.
JEFFERSON PARISH ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER   Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard announced today that Jose Gonzalez, Chief Administrative Assistant for Public Works for Jefferson Parish, is the Parish's new Chief Administrative Officer.
JEFFERSON PARISH PREPARES FOR FREEZING WEATHER   In anticipation of the upcoming severe winter weather, Jefferson Parish is making the following preparations to mitigate the potential effects of this weather system:
JEFFERSON TRANSIT SERVICE ON CLEARVIEW PARKWAY NOW OPERATING   Jefferson Parish has received federal funding through the FTA New Freedom Grant Program to operate the Clearview route.
MAPLEWOOD DRIVE ROAD CLOSURE   Beginning on Tuesday, january 5, 2010, at 7 a.m. and ending on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, Maplewood Drive between Price Drive and Hugh Drive in Harvey will completely close.
JEFFERSON PARISH UNVEILS BLUE DOG SCULPTURE   Join Jefferson Parish officials, benefactors henry and Pat Shane, and nationally celebrated artist George Rodrigue for the unveiling of a George Rodrigue blue dog statue on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 6 p.m.
