Garbage Collection to Resume on Friday, September 5, 2008 in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and Jean Lafitte
Residents Should Separate Household Garbage and Storm Generated Debris by Type of Waste at the Curb for Collection

Curbside Garbage Collection
Waste management will resume curbside collection of regular household garbage in Jefferson Parish on Friday, September 5, 2008, following the regular schedule.
Trash Drop-Off Sites
The following four parish drop-off sites will re-open on Thursday, September 4, 2008:-
400 David Drive, Metairie

6250 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero
-
Wall Boulevard; one block south of Lapalco Boulevard in Gretna
-
End of City Park Boulevard, off Jean Lafitte Boulevard
All sites are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte may utilize the drop-off sites free of charge. Residents of Jefferson Parish municipalities other than Lafitte and commercials users will be charged a fee to use these sites.
Jefferson Parish Landfill
The Jefferson Parish Landfill will re-open on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. until noon.
Storm Generated Debris
Jefferson Parish is working with its pre-qualified storm debris collection contractors to start the curbside collection of storm generated debris such as trees, tree limbs, and construction and demolition materials. In addition, the Parish will be announcing locations where residents may drop off their storm generated debris.
Important to Separate Garbage and Storm Debris Curbside by Type of Waste
In order to collect and dispose of waste materials safely and efficiently, residents are asked to separate garbage and storm-related debris as they place it at curbside for pick up.
Waste Management will collect household garbage such as food refuse, diapers, newspapers, bagged waste and other waste. Waste Management will not collect storm generated debris such as trees, tree limbs, fencing, roofing and other building materials, and storm-generated carpet/rugs, furniture, refrigerators and other large appliances.
Because different trucks will collect and dispose of different kinds of solid wastes, resident are asked to separate the garbage and storm-debris at the curb as follows:-
Containerized regular household garbage, cut grass and other bagged waste should be placed curbside no earlier than 4 p.m. on the day prior to either of your regularly scheduled garbage collection days.

Storm related debris separated as follows:

Trees, branches and other vegetative debris

Construction and demolition/building materials/fencing/roofing materials

Refrigerators and other large appliances
-
Electronic wastes
-
Household hazardous waste
Storm generated debris may be placed curbside for collection at any time. More than one pass will be made through each neighborhood to collect storm related debris.
All garbage and storm related debris should be placed on the parish right-of-way, the grassy area between the street and the sidewalk, immediately in front of your property. Please do not place debris on or near mailboxes, fire hydrants, gas meters, storm drains or utility boxes as collection activities could result in damages. Debris should not be piled under low hanging wires or tree branches because boom truck "claw" equipment will not be able to access it. Vehicles should not be parked in front of debris as this will not allow the collection equipment access to the debris.
Please note that neither garbage nor storm-generated debris will be collected from vacant lots. In addition, storm generated debris will not be collected from commercial establishments. In these cases, it is the property owner's responsibility to collect and properly dispose of trash and debris.
