JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

24th JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT

CLOSURE EXTENDED TO MAY 4TH

JEFFERSON, LA – Acting in accordance with Louisiana Constitution Article V, Section 1; due to the COVID-19 emergency as detailed in Governor John Bel Edwards’s Declarations of Public Health Emergency, Jefferson Parish Cynthia Lee Sheng’s Declaration of State of Emergency, and the Louisiana Supreme Court’s Orders; the period of closure for the 24th Judicial District Court is extended until 8:00 a.m., on Monday, May 4, 2020. Those with criminal matters set during this closure are ordered to report to the assigned division on or before June 1, 2020 to secure a new court date. Those with civil matters set during the closure are ordered to contact the division clerk for further instructions on or after May 4, 2020.

Any and all preliminary or permanent injunctions, protective orders, temporary restraining orders, ex parte protective orders, and/or criminal stay away orders issued (Children’s Code Article, Code of Civil Procedure Articles, and/or Code of Criminal Procedure Articles) that would expire between the dates of March 13, 2020 and April 30, 2020 are extended until at least 4:30 p.m. on June 1, 2020.

The Clerk of Court is ordered to transmit a copy of this Order to counsel of record for each individual and each pro se litigant subject to any above-referenced preliminary or permanent injunction, protective order, temporary restraining order, ex parte protective order, and/or criminal stay away order in any case affected by this Order along with a notion of the case title and case number of each case affected by this Order. Counsel of record are then ordered to expeditiously transmit a copy of this Order to each of their clients who are affected by this Order.

The District Attorney and/or any other party to any case affected by this Order may move that individual(s) subject to any above-referenced preliminary or permanent injunction, protective order, temporary restraining order, ex parte protective order, and/or criminal stay away order in any case affected by this Order be served with this Order by any method of service provided by law.

Adjustments to this order, if necessary, will be posted on the Court’s website www.24jdc.us, the Louisiana Supreme Court website www.lasc.org , and in the news media.
