CURBSIDE RECYCLING AND RECYCLING COLLECTION AT BOTH

THE DAVID DR. AND LAPALCO DROP-OFF SITES SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19

JEFFERSON, LA – Curbside recycling in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte, and recycling collection at the David Drive and Lapalco drop-off-sites, has been suspended in an effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The suspension is needed to protect workers who sort material by hand at the processing facility.

“While we understand that the suspension of the curbside recycling program will alter efforts to help the Parish reduce waste going to the landfill, we also must implement every action practical to limit community spread of COVID-19,” said Katherine F. Costanza, assistant director of Jefferson Parish Environmental Affairs Department.

Although municipal waste volumes have increased with more individuals staying home, trash and bulky waste collection is continuing on its regular schedule.

According to Costanza, “We appreciate the community’s understanding of these measures during this critical time. This is a step to minimize the risks to sanitation workers that is in alignment with national and state goals to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
