GRAND ISLE ASSESSES NEED FOR FEMA-FUNDED
PRIVATE PROPERTY DEMOLITION PROGRAM

Private structures in Grand Isle damaged by Ida may be eligible for demolition if approved;
Those interested should fill out form or call hotline to request participation

GRAND ISLE, LA – The Town of Grand Isle is currently assessing the need for a possible Hurricane Ida FEMA-funded private property demolition program. This assessment is a critical step required by FEMA in order to approve the potential demolition program. Private structures that were significantly damaged by Hurricane Ida may be eligible for demolition if they meet the following criteria:

  • Located within the Town of Grand Isle limits
  • Substantially damaged or destroyed beyond repair by Hurricane Ida winds or water
  • No insurance proceeds or other funding are available to assist the demolition

All interested in this potential demolition program should submit a request online using the Parish’s web based intake form at https://arcg.is/q0ufe or call the Hurricane Ida Private Property Demolition Hotline at (888)-699-1002 (Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). If approved, FEMA will then need to assess and approve each property on an individual basis. Deadline to respond is December 31, 2021 but all are encouraged to fill out the form as soon as possible as this step is necessary in seeking FEMA approval to launch this program.

The Jefferson Parish Environmental Department continues to remind residents to place storm related debris on the Right of Way for the ongoing Parish debris collection program. Residents with debris questions or those who need to report any missed debris can call the Department of Environmental Affairs at (504) 731-4612.
