JEFFERSON PARISH ANNOUNCES CARES ACT ASSISTANCE FOR THE HOMELESS IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,349,129

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development (JPDCD) is pleased to announce the opening of its 2020 Rapid COVID-19 Response Application Period for HESG-CV funding. This funding is designed to support activities that do the following: prevent the spread of COVID-19 and/or facilitate assistance to eligible communities and households economically impacted by COVID-19.

According to the Director of Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development Nicole Fontenot, “Jefferson Parish is honored to provide assistance to eligible at risk families and individuals. We encourage all organizations who are interested in providing these needed programs and services to the citizens of Jefferson Parish to apply.”

Emergency Solutions Grant – CARES (ESG-CV) – The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020 (CARES Act) provided for a supplemental appropriation of Homeless Assistance Grants under the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) as authorized by McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 (P.L. 100-77), as amended by the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act of 2009 (P.L. 111-22) (42 U.S.C.S.§11371 et. seq.).

The CARES Act provides for allocations of homeless assistance funds to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus among individuals and families who are homeless or receiving homeless assistance and to support additional homeless assistance and homelessness prevention activities to mitigate the impacts created by coronavirus.

Eligible activities include all activities listed in the Emergency Solutions Grant Interim Rule, published in the Federal Register. HESG-CV funds may be used for any single activity or combination of eligible activities as outlined below in order to prepare for, prevent the spread of and respond to the coronavirus:

• Homelessness Prevention

• Emergency Shelter

• Rapid Rehousing

• Street Outreach

• Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)

No match is required for funds awarded under HESG-CV.
