Generator Safety:
Jefferson Parish reminds residents that carbon monoxide from generators is deadly. Only use a generator in a well-ventilated area and place away from structures, at least 20 feet away from your home, windows and doors. Carbon monoxide poisoning was among the leading causes of death during storm events in 2020.

Water & Sewer:
Until further notice, all of Jefferson Parish is under a boil water advisory. This boil water advisory will remain in effect until rescinded by the Jefferson Parish Water Department. Due to widespread power outages throughout Jefferson Parish, which has put a strain on the process of powering the sewerage systems, Jefferson Parish residents are asked to limit all non-essential sewer services as much as possible during this time - this includes washing clothes, cleaning dishes and showering. Residents can continue using their essential sewer services, such as using the bathroom.

Garbage and Recycling Collection:
Curbside trash collection of bagged, household garbage in tipper carts only has resumed today, Monday, September 6, 2021. Collection will occur on a limited basis, as driver’s return, downed power lines are cleared, and areas become accessible. Due to the severity of the storm, there will be delays in collection, and pick-up may not occur on your normal collection. Storm debris will be picked up separately.

Thompson Consultants, a debris monitoring firm, is hiring monitors to work with trucks and crews that will be staged throughout the parish neighborhoods to assist with the debris recovery process. These individuals ensure that all work performed is in accordance with guidelines and all applicable Federal laws and regulations related to the debris removal process. Interested candidates should call 407-376-5857.

Jefferson Transit Service:
Jefferson Transit has extended bus service suspension due to Hurricane Ida through Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021. Paratransit is operating for all dialysis trips and medical essential trips only. If you are in need of paratransit, please call 504-818-1077.
