FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH COUNCILMAN DEANO BONANO ADDRESSES TRAIN ISSUE
BLOCKING INTERSECTIONS AT LITTLE FARMS AVE. AND CENTRAL AVE.

JEFFERSON, LA – District 2 Councilman Deano Bonano plans to pass a resolution at the next Jefferson Parish Council meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 10 a.m., to request that the United States Congressional Delegation representing Jefferson Parish work with the US Railroad Administration to prevent Canadian National Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad from blocking the intersections at Little Farms Ave. and Central Ave. for periods in excess of those allowed by law.

Jefferson Parish has received numerous complaints in recent weeks about both intersections being blocked for periods lasting up to 45 minutes. These unscheduled, long time closures may delay emergency response and also create hazards for pedestrians who often climb between the cars to cross.

The Little Farms Ave. and Central Ave. crossings are major travel corridors for citizens, schools and businesses; these routes are anticipated to have even more traffic starting on November 4, 2020 at 7 a.m., due to a bridge replacement project on Sauve Road which will close the road in both directions and force motorists to use other possible routes, including Little Farms. CLICK HERE for a video with additional information about this scheduled road closure and to see all alternate routes.

Once the resolution addressing the train issue is adopted, certified copies of the resolution will be sent to the offices of Congressman Steve Scalise, Senator John Kennedy, Senator Bill Cassidy and Congressman Cedric Richmond.
