JEFFERSON PARISH GOVERNMENT PREPARES FOR HURRICANE SALLY

All Jefferson Parish Government Buildings Closed on Tuesday, September 15

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Administration, along with the Emergency Management and Public Works Departments, continue to closely monitor Hurricane Sally and are ready to respond accordingly. All 192 permanent pumps and 71 pump stations in Jefferson Parish are working and available. Additionally, a number of portable pumps are in place in Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Goose Bayou and Grand Isle. The following are updates as of Monday, September 14 at 2 p.m.:

Government Closures:

All Jefferson Parish buildings will close on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 due to Hurricane Sally. This includes the Joseph S. Yenni Building, the General Government Building, Jefferson Parish Credit Union, Jefferson Parish libraries and all Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation activities. The Bonnabel Boat launch, Bucktown Harbor Marina and Lafreniere Park will also be closed in preparation for the impending weather.

Garbage and Recycling Collection:

All curbside garbage and recycling services are cancelled on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 due to Hurricane Sally. All four Parish residential drop-off sites will also be closed due to the storm. Residents are advised not to place their garbage cans and recycling bins at the curb for pick up. Garbage and recycling containers should be placed in a secure location away from open spaces. Any bulk waste material such as furniture, tree limbs, grass clippings, scrap appliances, waste tires and construction debris should not be placed curbside for collection. Bulk waste should be secured in a safe location where debris cannot become hazardous to homes and vehicles in high winds.

Jefferson Transit Service:

Jefferson Transit will suspend all services at 7 p.m. today, Monday, September 14, ahead of Hurricane Sally. All riders should make their way home before the suspended service. Jefferson Transit continues to monitor the weather and will update the public on further service changes as they happen.

COVID-19 Testing:

The Alario Center drive-thru COVID-19 testing site is closed on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 due to Hurricane Sally.

Mandatory Evacuations:

There is a mandatory evacuation order in place for Grand Isle, the town of Jean Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria.
