JEFFERSON PARISH LAUNCHES JPNOTICIAS TEXT ALERT SYSTEM

JPNOTICIAS will Provide Regular Updates to Hispanic Citizens

JEFFERSON, LA – In an effort to effectively communicate with the Hispanic community on a more regular basis, Jefferson Parish has launched a new text alert system. All Spanish speaking citizens interested in receiving regular updates can opt in by texting the word “JPNOTICIAS’ to 888-777.

“It is a top priority to make sure we are providing all our Jefferson Parish citizens with the most up-to-date information as possible. Especially during times of crisis, it is imperative that people have access to timely and accurate information,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “Our Administration created a cross culture coordinator position to make sure all our Jefferson Parish citizens understand government services and what we provide. Throughout this COVID-19 crisis, we have translated all our press conferences and we now translate all press releases for distribution to local Hispanic media outlets as well."

According to Daniella Bello, cross culture coordinator for Jefferson Parish, “I believe JPNOTICIAS will be a great way expand our reach to all those in Jefferson Parish who only speak Spanish. I hope all Hispanic citizens will take advantage of this new resource."

Examples of when JPNOTICIAS may be used include: COVID-19 updates, severe weather alerts, road shutdowns, boil water advisories, other important news and real-time updates from Jefferson Parish. JPNOTICIAS is a free resource; however, standard text message fees may apply. Citizens can unsubscribe at any time.
