JEFFERSON PARISH PARKS AND RECREATION (JPRD) POST HURRICANE IDA RE-OPENING PLAN

JEFFERSON, LA – Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation (JPRD) has many updates post Hurricane Ida. See below the JPRD re-opening plan:

East Bank Playgrounds:
The following playgrounds on the East Bank sustained damage from Hurricane Ida, but are now safe and ready to resume Youth Athletic Programming beginning Saturday, September 18:

  • Bright Playground
  • Cleary Playground
  • Delta Playground
  • Jefferson Playground
  • Little Farms Playground
  • Owens Playground
  • Pontiff Playground
  • Williams Playlot
  • Lakeshore Playground
  • Girard Playground

The following playgrounds are being used as a Red Cross Shelter:

  • Lemon Playground
    • All youth athletic programming will be held at Jefferson Playground

The following playgrounds sustained significant damage and will not re-open until further notice:

  • Mike Miley Playground
    • All youth athletic programming will be held at Delta Playground

West Bank Playgrounds:
The following playgrounds on the West Bank sustained damage from Hurricane Ida, but are now safe and ready to resume Youth Athletic Programming beginning Saturday, September 18:

  • Estelle Playground
  • Harvey Playground
  • Johnny Jacobs Playground
  • Martin Luther King Playground
  • Nicholson Playground
  • Terrytown Playground
  • Avondale Playground (pending Entergy power restoration)

The following playgrounds sustained significant damage and youth athletic programming will be held at a satellite playground:

  • Kennedy Heights
    • Programming moving to Avondale (pending power restoration)
  • Oakdale Playground
    • Programming moving to Harvey Playground
  • Rose Thorne Playground
    • Programming moving to Estelle Playground
  • Woodmere Playground
    • Programming moving to Harvey Playground. It is possible that the tackle football program will return to Woodmere early next week pending restoration progress.

The following playgrounds sustained significant damage; however, there is no youth programming at these playgrounds. These playgrounds will remain closed to the public until further notice:

  • Belle Terre Playground
  • Bridge City Playground
  • Waggaman Playground

The following playgrounds are being used as a Red Cross Shelter:

  • PARD Playground
    • Programming moving to Johnny Jacobs Playground
  • Kings Grant Playground
    • Programming moving to Nicholson Playground

Adult Athletic Programs:

  • Flag Football will resume on Monday, September 20, at LaSalle Park.
  • Softball will resume on Tuesday, September 21, at Lasalle Sports Complex.
  • JPRD/USSSA Baseball Tournaments
    • Tournaments at Lasalle Sports Complex will resume the weekend of September 25.

Leisure Services:

  • The resuming of Golden Age Programming, Special Needs Programming and all classes will be announced on Monday, September 20 pending a review of available facilities and instructors.

Rentals:

  • We are contacting all current reservations for the next 2 weeks and informing them of their reservation status.
  • New Reservations will begin September 20 based on availability.

Satellite Parks:

  • The following Satellite Parks are open:
    • Bonnabel Boat Launch
    • Bucktown Marina
    • Elmwood Square
    • Little Jefferson
    • Bayou Metairie
    • River Ridge Meditation Park
    • 10th Street Walk Track
    • Bellemeade Walk Track
    • Bent Tree Tot Lot and Walking Trail
    • Bridge City Tot Lot
    • Westminister
    • Woodland West
    • Woodmere Shelter and Tot Lot
  • The following Satellite Parks are damaged or have not been assessed and will remain closed:
    • Avondale North
    • Avondale South
    • Brown Park
    • Claiborne Gardens
    • Esther Street
    • Glisson Park
    • Harvard Avenue
    • Kennedy Heights Trail
    • Lincolnshire
    • Lower Lafitte
    • Oak Forest Tot Lot
    • Thomas Jefferson Tot Lot
    • Westside Progressive Park
    • Willie Harris Memorial Park

Parc de Familles:

  • Partial re-opening soon which will include the dog park, walking pier and restroom/shelter pavilion. Date will come early next week.

Lafreniere Park:

  • Will reopen as soon as all of the debris is removed from the parking lots. A date could be announced early next week.
  • The JPRD NFL league will tentatively start Monday, September 27, at Lafreniere Park.
