JEFFERSON PARISH URGES RESIDENTS TO ABIDE BY GOVERNOR’S STAY AT HOME ORDER

JEFFERSON PARISH GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC

JEFFERSON, LA – Governor John Bel Edwards issued a statewide Stay at Home order that goes into effect on Monday, March 23 at 5 p.m., to further fight the spread of COVID-19. All Jefferson Parish government buildings will be closed to the public beginning tomorrow; however, departments will continue to handle essential business by phone, email or by appointments on an as-needed basis.

“We know now more than ever, it is critically important to fulfill our duty in delivering essential services to our community. While the medical community is on the front line of this pandemic, we as public servants have a critical role in delivering essential community services to our Parish citizens. We take pride in this mission and we will stand up to this challenge,” said Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “Our Government is still open for business; however, we are taking measures to make sure we ‘flatten the curve’ by taking aggressive social distancing measures to reduce the virus in our area and allow our medical community to not be overwhelmed.”

Residents and business owners needing to conduct business at the Jefferson Parish government buildings are encouraged to do so online or over the phone; residents are required to call ahead to make an appointment for business that needs to be conducted in-person. Citizens should pay their water bills online at www.JeffParish.net, by phone or by using the Terry Parkway Drive-Through service, which is located at 721 Terry Parkway (Drive-Up Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). Citizens can also make payments by dropping a check, money order or cash into the night box located at 4500 Westbank Expressway and 1221 Elmwood Park (must be in an envelope).

The order is set to expire at the end of the night on Sunday, April 12. The Governor will re-evaluate the need for the statewide Stay at Home order and other mitigation measures to determine if they need to be extended beyond April 12.
