STATEWIDE INDOOR MASK MANDATE EXTENDED THROUGH OCTOBER 27, 2021

JEFFERSON, LA – Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has extended the statewide mask mandate through October 27, 2021 to further slow the spread of COVID-19 following the state’s worst surge of the pandemic. Face coverings over the nose and mouth are required when inside a commercial establishment or any other building or space open to the public. This includes public transit, K-12 schools, college campuses, government buildings and health care facilities in Jefferson Parish.

The mandate requires face coverings for everyone age 5 or older or enrolled in kindergarten, except for the following:

  • Anyone who has a medical condition that prevents the wearing of a face covering
  • Anyone who is consuming a drink or food
  • Anyone who is trying to communicate with a person who is hearing impaired
  • Anyone who is giving a speech for broadcast or to an audience
  • Anyone temporarily removing his or her face covering for identification purposes
