Mission: The Personnel Department (Personnel Board and Staff) is responsible for the personnel functions provided in Section 4.03 of the Charter, including policy and rule making, job classification, salary and rules administration, recruitment, employment testing, applicant certification, and employee appeals for positions in the Parish Classified Service. The Personnel Department provides the departments of Jefferson Parish with qualified candidates for employment in positions of public service and guidance as to the principles and merits of civil service employment.

The Personnel Department strives to serve the public by providing the means by which the general public and current employees can learn of, apply for, and fairly compete for Parish employment opportunities. The Personnel Department further seeks to enable the departments of Jefferson Parish to make informed decisions regarding civil service employment and assist in the appointment of qualified candidates for those departments' positions.

The Department operates two application offices, one on each bank of the Mississippi River. Persons interested in Parish employment can visit either of the offices to obtain information on job opportunities and to file employment applications and/or job interest cards.
