Saltwater Intrusion Dashboard

Important Information To Know

Due to the ongoing drought, saltwater entering the Mississippi River from the Gulf
of Mexico has impacted drinking water in Plaquemines Parish. At this point, there
is no impact to the drinking water supply in the Greater New Orleans area, including Jefferson Parish. The Jefferson Parish Emergency Management team and Jefferson Parish Water Department continue to help our neighbors in Plaquemines Parish. We
are working closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, GOHSEP and regional partners to closely monitor this situation and will continue to provide updates to the
public as more information is available.

Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng signed an Emergency Declaration on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in order to immediately prepare for the potential impacts. President Lee Sheng also addressed the Jefferson Parish Council on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 to provide an update on mitigation measures to address this emergency.
