JEFFERSON PARISH ANNOUNCES 2020 FIRST-TIME
HOMEBUYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM SESSION

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development is pleased to announce the opening of its 2020 First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program session on Monday, August 17, 2020. Jefferson Parish has been designated as a Participating Jurisdiction for the HOME Program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and, as such, has designated a portion of its HOME funds for use in its “First-Time Homebuyer’s Assistance Program” (FTHB).

According to the Director of Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development Nicole Fontenot, “Jefferson Parish is honored to provide affordable housing opportunities to its citizens. We encourage all citizens who are interested and eligible for the First-Time Homebuyer’s Assistance Program to apply.”

The actual number of households that will be assisted is contingent upon the actual level of assistance received per client participating. Although the program allows assistance of up to $50,000 per client in Jefferson Parish, (including unincorporated Kenner) and up to $60,000 per client in the City of Kenner (excluding unincorporated Kenner), the level of funding assistance is based on an eligibility calculation.

The 2020 FTHB Program will be administered by the Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development, in conjunction with the Jefferson Parish Finance Authority. This program provides a level of assistance determined by Community Development to a qualified homebuyer interested in purchasing his/her first home. The assistance is secured by a mortgage determined by the amount of money received. Applicants must qualify under the low-income guidelines and must attend two classes: The First-Time Homebuyer Training and a Financial Fitness Class.
