JEFFERSON PARISH OFFICES CLOSED ON FRIDAY, DEC. 23 &
MONDAY, DEC. 26 IN OBSERVANCE OF CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY

Many closures in preparation of inclement freezing weather

JEFFERSON, LA – All Jefferson Parish Government offices will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022 and Monday, December 26, 2022 in observance of the Christmas holiday.

LIBRARIES:
All Jefferson Parish libraries will be closed from Friday, December 23, 2022 – Monday, December 26, 2022 and will reopen to the public on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. For more information, visit www.JPLibrary.net.

TRANSIT:
Jefferson Parish Transit will be running a normal weekday service today, Thursday, December 22 and Friday, December 23, 2022, and a weekend service from Saturday, December 24 - Monday, December 26, 2022. Jefferson Parish Transit will monitor roads, overpasses and bridges and will report any service disruptions at JPTransit.org.

JPAWS:
The Jefferson Parish Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) will be closed from Friday, December 23, 2022 – Monday, December 26, 2022, and will reopen on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. For more information about pet safety during winter weather, call 504-349-5111.

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING:
Garbage collection and curbside recycling will take place as scheduled on Friday, December 23, 2022 and Monday, December 26, 2022, for residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. All four Parish trash drop-off sites will be closed on Sunday, December 25, 2022 (Christmas Day) and Monday, December 26, 2022 and will reopen for normal operations at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. The Jefferson Parish Landfill will be closed on Sunday, December 25, 2022 (Christmas Day) and will reopen at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022.

Please note: Residents in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte may experience delays with trash and recycling pickup due to frigid temperatures and road conditions. Crews will continue collecting this week, however, trash and recycling for next week may be delayed or slowed due to concerns for worker health and safety. Residents should place trash and recycling on curb to be picked up as scheduled. If trash and recycling is not picked up on a regular scheduled collection date due to inclement weather, crews will resume collection the following scheduled day. JPRD:
In anticipation of the freezing temperatures and the Christmas holiday, the Parks and Recreation Department will implement the following temporary suspension of services:

From Friday, December 23 – Monday, December 26, all recreation facilities and parks will be closed in observance of the Christmas holidays (not including Lafreinere Park) and will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Please note: Christmas in the Park at Lafreniere Park will be open from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23 and Saturday December 24, closed all day on Sunday, December 25, 2022 and will reopen on Monday, December 26, 2022.

Today at 7:00 a.m., crews began shutting off water systems to all facilities and will work into the night to accommodate games at multiple gyms. Please note: there will be no outdoor restrooms, water fountains or pet water fountains available until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, due to the water shut off. These shut offs will affect the following: all playgrounds, parks, walking tracks, tot-lot’s, Bonnabel Boat Launch, Bucktown Marina, Parc des Familles, Hope Haven Walking Track and any other properties managed by JPRD. Terrytown Playground and Bright Playground will be open as warming centers starting at 9:00 p.m. today, Thursday, December 22, for the remainder of the freezing weather. Residents in need of assistance or shelter during the cold, call the EOC at 504-349-5360.
